Winter comes, one by one, all a little different

I’ve been messing about with screen printing. It…. is complicated to explain how to screen print… i dunno how to start.

There are lots of simple steps which can ALL GO HORRIBLY AND WONDERFULLY WRONG.

Using some magic goo you create stencils on silk. The silk stops most of the paint so you don’t get a tacky blob (hopefully) for an image. Unless you were going for a tacky blob then thats AAAAAALLLL good.

The screen looked like this:

You squeegee some paint over the background stencil, let it dry, pick your next colour and do the next until you complete your image. I had four different layers, meaning four times things could go wrong! If you spot a screen print count the different colours – the more colours the more hardcore!

So the top image is how the goo prints turned out but some had weird shadows and blips. ANd some just massively FAILED.

This one is haunted by a ghost rabbit D:oops rabbit ghost

This one I guess I got careless…

oops messy

I swear there was an earthquake…

There are a lot of pressures to be perfect, a lot of it can come from Facebook. We naturally compare and we naturally share our glossy super happy times on the web, and not the bumps. But the bumps can lead to something new, or precious.

Give yourself a break!

A screen print can never be truly perfect, but it could be truly perfect for you.

I’m putting all of the original prints for sale on my folksy shop. Please take a look and support my arty ways :3

Have a wonderful winter! x

Art moving…

I met a man yesterday.

He was an artist and even though I had no idea I would be meeting him (I was ment to meet with people concerning knotty work related projects) he got me thinking.

I was sent a questionnaire from a student of Aberystwyth University last week. It asked what art was to me, and how you could use art in science.

Art to me is just a way of saying hello.

… or penguins may be eaten by sharks.  And there is quite a bit of science in a hello, and in penguins and sharks.

Back to this man.

His name is Sean Harris and he started this super-important-meeting-about-not-art by talking about art. He was linking up with our partners to create an animation, played in a gigantic fish trap which would be at the National Eisteddfod. This was the kind of thing he does. He did an animation at the Greenman festival. You can see it here

He took an idea, and an idea from 13,000 years ago to create a new idea. It was science which allowed a mammoth tusk to become a canvas and for flickering pixels to come to life.

science20is20bestI am a Jekyl and Hyde sort of person, half of me loves science and logic and the other just wants to go WOOOOOO! THAT IS AMAZING MUST CREATE! Then I get itchy fingers and bring to life patchwork monsters.ANYWAY.

I’m going to blog my best the things which inspire me and the the things that came from the things that those things which inspired me things from.

See you at the ‘steddfod
